A Stunning Newtown Kitchen Remodel: How Weiler’s and Local Contractors Brought the Vision to Life
Newtown Kitchen: Weiler's Collaboration with Contractors
Lauren Small

This client came to Weiler’s with the goal of making her Newtown kitchen feel as open as possible and more connected to her other rooms. She was already working with a contractor but needed someone to provide designs and materials. She chose Weiler’s Kitchen & Bath after visiting a different design center and falling in love with the cabinetry brand Omega. She wasn’t as fond of that company’s designs and found out about Weiler’s online. After coming in for a complimentary showroom consultation she clicked with
our designer Andi. “I understood what she was looking for and really listened to what she wanted, this is where I guess the other company wasn’t hitting the mark,” -Andi.
The Starting Point:
Our client lives in a center unit town home in Newtown, Bucks County PA. She only has windows in the front and back of the house, so she wanted her space to feel more continuous and open. The original kitchen was builder grade, it had a peninsula/half wall and a soffit above that separated the dining room from the kitchen, and a half wall on the opposite side to enclose the space. To the left of the peninsula there were cabinets nestled between walls and beneath another soffit, opposite that was the majority of cabinets, stove, microwave, and fridge. The sink and dishwasher were located in the peninsula. The cabinets were short and didn’t continue to the ceiling, they were blond colored natural wood with an antiquated door style. The client didn’t have much countertop space to work with either, so not only was the space outdated it was also nonfunctional for her entertaining lifestyle.
The Design Vision:

The goal was to create a space that would be better connected to the rest of the house, and suited to our client’s lifestyle. She’s big into entertaining so she wanted ease of access to all parts of her kitchen, and having a nice island was really important to her to provide a central prep and gathering area for guests. To open up the kitchen both half walls and the peninsula were removed, and the sink and dishwasher were relocated from the peninsula to the new island. The soffit to the left of the peninsula would be removed. That way all the new cabinets could extend to the ceiling for a more modern design. For more storage and for hosting purposes a beverage/coffee bar was built along the side wall in the dining room.
For cabinetry the client had already decided on the brand Omega, she wanted to do two different colors, a very popular trend in kitchen design. For the island and dining she chose quarter sawn oak wood stained ceruse natural stain and the perimeter is painted maple magnolia. She also wanted a beautiful wood range hood to match the kitchen cabinets, with the majority of the hood ceruse natural oak with small magnolia accents.

The client had already been working with a contractor as she was gradually updating her house, when she came to Weiler’s all she needed was a design and materials, which our designers typically do even if a client already has a contractor for installation. Andi continued our process as usual, meeting her for a free showroom consultation, going out to her home for a measure, and then designing the remodel on 3D design software to create renderings. Once renderings are made the designers utilize AI to present a more realistic image to help the client visualize their space. Before ordering any of the materials Andi got in contact with the client’s contractor to ensure he was able to make the necessary modifications during installation, reviewed the plans to make sure everything was clear so there’d be no delays, and also to ask if there was anything else he would need ordered. When our designers work with outside contractors we understand many have preferences on installation techniques, extra materials, and we offer support with any project stumps or changes. We’re also able to check materials for damages and order any replacements to keep timelines on track. When our designers are working with contractors they can supply any/all of these materials: cabinetry, countertops, tile, flooring, plumbing, and lighting. In the case of this Newtown kitchen, the only material we didn’t supply was flooring. Cabinets are always delivered to the house, and we store the rest of the materials in our warehouse until the contractor is ready to pick up, or we can have one of our trucks deliver to the jobsite.
Back to our Newtown kitchen, Andi mentioned two things she felt important to review with the contractor; unique cabinet modifications and the relocation of plumbing from the peninsula to the island. One of the cabinets was a tall pantry, it had to be modified into a trapezoid shape to fit an angled wall and maximize inner storage. And the plumbing was hindered by the house sitting atop a slab, which required the contractor to cut the concrete slab to relocate the plumbing. Luckily this contractor was skilled, he was able to work this Newtown kitchen’s unique modifications and install this beautiful new room.

The Final Reveal:
The Newtown PA kitchen renovation turned out beautiful, you wouldn’t even think it’s the same house! It’s safe to say that Andi met the client’s goals, the new space cleanly connects the kitchen with the adjacent dining and sitting rooms and provides a perfect entertainment area. Visually it looks brighter, wider (and is, since partial walls on both sides were removed), and taller since the cabinets now extend to the ceiling without any awkward gaps or soffits. Our client has more storage, counter space, and a conveniently located sink in the large island, and additional storage in the dining room beverage bar. All new Cafe appliances add an air of luxury to a kitchen covered in custom cabinetry, including a large Cafe stovetop under a backsplash medallion and wood range hood. Recessed lighting, pendants above the island, and under-cabinet LED’s highlight the room. The client couldn’t be happier with the end result, we know she loved the final look and by the time our receptionist scheduled photos she’d already hosted her family and friends.
We have to give credit where it’s due, our client’s contractor did a fantastic job on his end. He understood what Andi was dictating and had the knowledge to make those difficult plumbing and cabinetry changes. The contractor collaborated with Weiler’s through all parts of demolition, material pickup, and installation and was integral in the success of this project.
While Weiler’s usually emphasizes our role as a sort of “one stop shop” for clients who’d like to do the entire process with us from design to installation, this project showcases our designers’ skill, and our ability to help in kitchen and bath projects along with other contractors and DIY home owners in Bucks County. Andi took their layout from a closed off square to an open heart of this home.
